Bind XRef Symbols

Access: Actions: Bind Xref Symbols...

When a symbol is placed in a drawing, the information is stored on the Symbol Table. If the symbol references an external file, only the reference data is stored on the Symbol Table, not the entire referenced file. This means that whenever the stored XRef symbol is used, AutoSPRINK accesses the Symbol Table for information, then accesses the external file for drawing data.

Binding an XRef symbol into a drawing removes the step of accessing the externally referenced file by storing the information from this file in the Symbol Table. Once an Xref symbol has been bound, its visible data will now be in a drawing as a symbol. At this point, even if the external file is deleted, the information will still be available for the symbol in the drawing, because it is now in the Symbol Table.

To bind an Xref symbol, do the following:

Note: If an XRef symbol is bound and then split by using the Symbols function on the Split submenu, the file will be duplicated in the Symbol Table. If the file in question is particularly large, it can consume a lot of computing space, dramatically slowing operations in AutoSPRINK. As such, use discretion when splitting a bound Xref symbol.
