Modify Existing Item

To modify the properties of a previously- created item in the AlarmCAD for AutoCAD Parts Database, choose Modify Existing Item from the Parts Database menu. The submenu lists the categories Appliance, Appliance Base, Auxiliary Panel, Battery, Cable, Panel, Panel Card, Miscellaneous and Trim Kit. From the Modify Existing Item submenu, click the category of the item to modify.

Part Number

At this point, the Modify Existing Appliance dialog appears (image on right) with multiple tabs specific to the selected category.  The number of tabs will vary by item.  Search for an existing item via the Part Number field by entering the first few letters/digits in the field to initiate the search.  The Select Item by Part Number button helps in narrowing the search after the first few letters/digits are entered in the Part Number field.  Alternatively, all Part Numbers are listed in the searchable drop-down menu.

Please Note:  Once the Part Number is located, it will populate the Item Code Number.  At the bottom of the page, the Next Part Number and Previous Part Number buttons allow the navigation through the Parts Database one Part Number at a time.  These navigational tools are also accessible via the Action Menu at the top left side of the dialog.

Modify/Modify Parts

Click the Modify button at the bottom of the dialog and examine the settings in each available box, altering them as desired while moving through the fields.  With the correct properties specified, click Save to store the alterations for future use or Cancel to abort the procedure and close the dialog.  The newly-modified part will update in the Parts Tree as well.

Close vs. Cancel Buttons

The Cancel button only appears when an item is in Modify mode and the Modify button has been clicked but any changes made have yet to be saved. The Close button appears before a new item has been saved or when the dialog is in Modify mode with an existing item before the Modify button has been clicked. Close is always an option in the dialog’s Action menu.

Cancel eliminates any changes made on the various dialog tabs and returns the dialog to its pre-modified status, whereas Close either halts the new item creation process or eliminates the dialog from the screen and returns functionality to the drawing field.
