Low Voltage System Reference

The Low Voltage System Reference (LVSys Ref) identifies an electrical connection point between multiple drawings. The LVSys Ref tool is useful when connecting drawings together that are related, but do not have similar circuit layouts (e.g. a multi-story building with different circuit layouts on each floor).

To access the LV Sys Ref, go to the Tools menu/Low Voltage submenu to insert an incoming or outgoing circuit. The LVSys Ref Properties page will appear (see image on the left). The first dialog box will prompt users to identify whether the LVSys Ref represents an Incoming or Outgoing circuit to supply the drawing.

The image above represents a properly connected (green triangle) outgoing circuit. A properly connected incoming circuit displays an inverted green triangle. If any errors have occurred during the connection of a LVSys Ref, a (red triangle) will appear, as in the Properties' page Symbol Display Properties section to the left.

How to Connect Drawings with Low Voltage System References

To place an Outgoing Low Voltage System Reference, the System Reference dialog box provides the Drawing to connect to field along with the button. Users locate which drawing the current drawing will connect to by clicking the button.

When an Incoming Low Voltage System Reference is placed, the Select Outgoing Low Voltage System Reference window appears immediately, prompting users to identify the Outgoing System Reference it is connecting from (see image on left).

By default, the Ignore path option is selected. This option will locate a drawing within the same directory as the current drawing.

The Use specified drawing path option should be selected if the connected drawing is located in a different directory than the current drawing.

Users will receive notification warnings if connections cannot be made, such as "The outgoing LVSys Ref point being placed has no circuits."

Please Note:  Drawings that will contain Low Voltage System References need to be named and saved first, before the LV Sys Ref is assigned. The incoming and outgoing Low Voltage System References' paths need to be identified in ALL of the connected drawings, not just in the original drawing or the connected drawing.

Circuits Available at this Location

The list dialog in the middle of the Properties page lists Circuits available at the System Reference's location. Column headers separate them by Active, Device, Card Name, Circuit Name, Circuit Type, Circuit Subtype, Voltage, Available Current, and Length of Circuit.

Add and Remove Circuits

The Add Circuit button enables users to add the circuits to be included in the wire path, and brings up the Circuit to Add dialog box on the left.

For Panels/ Auxiliary Panel/ Power source types, users identify the Source, Card, and Circuit from their respective drop-down menus, which will auto-populate the type and subtype fields.  For Devices source types, users select the circuit to be used for connection from its drop-down menu.

The Remove Circuit button will delete any highlighted circuit in the list.

Please Note:  Adding circuits from the LV System Reference's Properties page will add circuits continuously up to the Panel. As stated in the Notes section, Auxiliary Panels and Devices must be active to be included, and 'uncasted' circuits are not included.

Symbol and Display Properties

By default, LVSys Refs display as triangles encased in circles, but can be assigned another shape (see left image). When using either J choice, its font type and size can be adjusted.

The Symbol Size is the scale size the symbol displays in the drawing, and defaults to 1.0, but is modifiable.

Finishing Up

When finished making the connections and adding circuits, click OK on the bottom of the Properties page to save the LVSys Ref. If mistakes are made in any of the dialog boxes, click Cancel to exit without saving any work.
